Vision Statement: Armstrong School for the Arts is a school of choice for high expectations that focuses on building skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, mathematics, critical thinking, and expressing thoughts and feelings in imaginative ways.
Celebrating 100 years, Armstrong is Hampton School District's oldest, continuous school. The school was named in honor of the Armstrong family after the land where the school stands today was donated by the children of Col. William Nevins Armstrong, the brother of Hampton Institute founder Gen. Samuel Chapman Armstrong.
Armstrong School for the Arts incorporates visual arts, music, drama, dance, and artistic writing into the four core subject areas of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Library, Art, Music, and Physical Education teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and teach hands-on art integrated lessons that enhance the Hampton City Schools curriculum. The integrated lessons have a meaningful, positive impact on student learning and achievement.
On September 29, 2014, Armstrong School for the Arts was named a National Blue Ribbon School. Armstrong was one of 287 public schools and 50 private schools in the nation to receive this honor for the 2013-2014 school year. We are very proud of our teachers and students for working hard to achieve this highest national honor.
